More than 2,300 people have been diagnosed with cholera in the last three weeks, it was known by the authorities, with 90% of them in the capital and its surroundings, where attacks were shown to interrupt electricity and water supply.
Consequently, at least 51 people died, the Ministry of Health’s Extraordinary Operations Center said in a statement, with cases being recorded mainly in Karari and Jambal Aulia on the outskirts of Khartoum.
The war, which lasts more than two years, between the Sudanese army, who took full control of the state of Khartoum last week, and the paramilitary organization of rapid support forces has led to the spread of hunger and diseases and has destroyed most health facilities.
Unmanned vehicles attacks on gas stations, fuel tanks and dams have resulted in powering and water supply, creating conditions for the spread of cholera, lean fever, malaria and other diseases.
“Public services, already under huge pressure, are struggling to cope with the complex challenges caused by prolonged absence of current,” the United Nations said in a report that has released today.
