The governor of, (Republicans), and his Secretary of Public Security, starred in an event with an air of electoral pre-campaign during the secretary’s affiliation party on Thursday (22), in a nightclub in Vila Olímpia, south of São Paulo.
Derrite was explicit by placing herself as a candidate, justifying that this is the reason for his return to the subtitle – which he had left in 2022 – while Tarcisio, named as a possible presidential next year, said the group of party leaders who accompanied them was united and “wants to make a difference.”
“One thing that is important, which cannot go unnoticed, is the symbolism of this meeting here. It is the amount of leaders we have here, all over Brazil. For those who doubt this group will be united next year, I say to you: this group will be united,” said the governor.
The group quoted by Tarcisio was composed of national party presidents who were with him on stage: (), Renata Abreu (Somos), Gilberto Kassab (PSD), Antonio Rueda (União Brasil) and (PP). With the exception of Valdemar and Renata, the other leaders integrate the first echelon of (PT). Nevertheless, they are already articulating to launch an opposition candidacy for the president’s reelection in 2026.
“This group will be strong, this group has a project for Brazil. This group will make a difference. This group knows the way. At the moment there is doubt, when there are a lot of people in Brasilia lost, who do not know the way, and when decisions are made casuistic, sometimes even irresponsibly, has the group here, which is united, who wants to make a difference,” said Tarcísio.
According to allies from several of these leaders, the group awaits a (PL) endorsement for Tarcisio’s nomination as presidential candidate next year. Officially, the governor states that he will compete for reelection.
Ciro Nogueira was the first to address the theme on stage, shortly before the governor’s speech.
“The governors of Sao Paulo always make mistakes when they are elected: they soon want to run for the presidency and put themselves as candidates,” said the leader.
He then added: “And that is why Brazil may call Governor Tarcisio a president very soon. Or now or in 2030. And who will decide this is the people of São Paulo and the people of Brazil. But it can be sure: if there is this decision, Governor, both União Brasil and Progressives will be by his side.”
Valdemar, while arguing that Bolsonaro – currently ineligible – will be the presidential candidate in 2026, said the PL also awaits a definition of Tarcisio’s electoral situation.
“We have to see what Tarcisio will solve so that we can solve our lives,” he said.
The president of the PL also stressed that, in the end, the decision on who will be the candidate for the Plateau will be up to Bolsonaro himself.
“Who will say who will be the presidential candidate is Bolsonaro. Why? Why is he the owner of the votes,” he said.
The event took place at the Vila JK nightclub, which, according to the Derrite team, has a capacity of a thousand people and was crowded with mayors and councilors of the interior, as well as deputies, senators and guests of the parties. According to PP advisors, more than 80 mayors were on site. The party commands 47 municipalities in São Paulo.
Two presidents of parties supporting Tarcisio in the state did not attend: Whale Rossi (MDB) and Marcos Pereira (Republicans). For over a year, rumors circulate – registered by Valdemar – that Tarcisio could leave Republicans and migrate to the PL. In the case of the MDB, part of the acronym federal bench insists on supporting Lula in 2026.
Another absence was that of the mayor of the capital, (MDB). Although Derrite has placed himself as a pre-candidate for the Senate, parties members assess that he could also run for the São Paulo government if Tarcisio actually competes for the presidency. Nunes is also interested in office.
Ciro Nogueira stressed, upon arriving at the ceremony, that, if Tarcisio throws himself to the presidency, the party will defend the candidacy of Derrite to the Government of São Paulo.
“Then, the derrite must be a candidate for the government. We will defend this, but it is logical that it is a construction,” he said.
The Secretary of Security commented on the absences. About Nunes and Whale Rossi, he said they both had appointments, but the mayor called him. “There is a rivalry of mine and Ricardo [Nunes] here in São Paulo against crime. “
Derrite, former captain of the Military Police, was elected federal deputy in 2018 by the PP and since then maintained proximity to Bolsonaro’s political group. In 2022, however, the PP supported the campaign of (then on the PSDB) to the São Paulo government in the first round, which motivated Derrite to change the party for the PL.
Now the secretary returns to the PP to compete in the Senate, as the PL intends to launch. In 2026, each state will elect two senators. The party exchange was traded friendly by Ciro and Valdemar.
“There is no reason to hide that our desire, that my departure from the PL, has a context – and the main context is the place for the Senate,” Derrite to journalists told the event.
