The Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Pablo Guanipa, one of the main collaborators of, has been arrested this Friday when two days are missing for the legislative and governors of Sunday. Chavismo has pressed its repressive apparatus on the eve of the elections. This week the security forces under Nicolás Madur. The Minister of Interior and Justice, Diosdado Cabello, has assured that there are more than 50 assumptions arrested, because they allegedly had plans to sabotage Sunday’s elections.
Intelligence services have been displaying controls with armed and hooded agents in different parts of Caracas for days. After the presidential elections on July 28, Guanipa, leader of the First Justice Party, had gone to hiding. The politician had suffered several persecutions from the security forces that he had managed to evade. The last time he had a public appearance was on January 9, along with Machado, in a demonstration in the Chacao municipality, in Caracas, convened to reject Maduro’s possession. The investiture took place the next day, despite the fact that the opposition defends with 80% of the official scrutiny records that the winner was.
With the opposition division around the strategy in the face of regional and parliamentary votes this Sunday, Machado’s abstention position was added, also backed by the Unitary Democratic platform that brings together six important opposition parties. His brother, Tomás Guanipa, however, has presented himself to the list of deputies along with the group led by Manuel Rosales and who are committed to participating to challenge Chavismo.
