President Donald Trump announced his support for a partnership between United States Steel Corp. and the Japanese company Nippon Steel Corp., stating that this would keep the iconic American company in the United States.
“I am proud to announce that, after much consideration and negotiation, US Steel will remain in America and will keep its headquarters in Pittsburgh’s great city,” Trump said on Friday.
Trump stated that the partnership would create at least 70,000 jobs and add $ 14 billion to the US economy, with “most of this investment” occurring in the next 14 months. He also mentioned that he would participate in an event in Pittsburgh on May 30.

The announcement occurred hours after the White House confirmed that Trump received a recommendation from the US foreign investment committee, a national security panel reviewing the partnership.
