Michel Dupont, 52 years old, from the Auvergne region, discovered on its field a golden deposit evaluated at about 320 billion grivne, but cannot use it because of the French legislation.

The French farmer made a discovery that could have changed his life forever, but the law was in the way. Michel Dupont accidentally found the golden deposit on his field during a routine inspection. “I was simply checking the property and I noticed an unusual glow in a straw. When I started digging, I couldn’t believe what I see,” said the 52-year-old farmer.
Profit of billions but inaccessible
Experts estimate that the deposit contains up to 150 tons of precious metal, the total value amounting to about 3.5 billion euros-the equivalent of about 320 billion griv.
However, Dupont’s enthusiasm quickly turned into disappointment. As soon as the news about the discovery spread in the press, the French authorities intervened. They forbade the farmer any form of gold exploitation. According to the French law, the basement and mineral resources belong to the state, even if they are located under private properties. In order to start the exploitation, a complex and long -term process is required: ecological evaluations, obtaining authorizations and agreements from several state institutions.
“They explained to me that nothing can be done until all the checks and procedures are completed,” said Michel Dupont. According to him, the process can take years, without the guarantee that he will eventually receive permission to extract gold.
Life has changed, though
Even if he cannot use gold, the farmer’s life has already changed. Around his farm were formed by buyers interested in the neighboring lands.
The inhabitants of the region are divided on the possible mining exploitation. Some are afraid that this could destroy the environment in an area famous for its natural beauty. Others hope in a better economic future: new jobs and attracting investment.
