Former Minister Aldo Rebelo said the minister of tried to intimidate him during a criminal case hearing about attempted coup d’état on Friday (23).
“In fact, what happened there was an attempt to intimidate witness,” Aldo told UOL. “The judge may ignore the testimony, may not consider. Now, how he acted, pressing witness, no.”
Moraes threatened to arrest Aldo during the statement. The fact occurred after the former governments minister and answer a question from the STF minister himself. Aldo is a defense witness to former Navy Commander Almir Garnier in the process.
“I think that [Moraes] I should apologize, “he told UOL on Saturday.” Maybe I didn’t want to do it on time, but you can do it later, “he added. Aldo is in Santarém (PA), where he participated in a lecture.
Although he was Minister of Lula and Dilma and affiliated to the B PC, Aldo has distanced himself from the left in recent years and approached his pockets. In 2024, he was appointed to the position of Secretary of International Relations of the Mayor of São Paulo, (MDB), then candidate of the former president () in the municipal elections.
“Maybe, at some point, he [Moraes] Go apologize for what happened. That’s what I hope it will happen, “Aldo told UOL.
The former defense minister also said that he did not think he would be arrested or felt threatened by Moraes. He said he saw the STF minister “once or two” in possession ceremonies at the court, but had no meetings or “prolonged conversation” with Moraes.

Aldo tried to minimize Garnier’s performance. In the testimony, he talked about the use of “expression forces” in reference to the phrase that was said by Garnier to former President Bolsonaro at the meeting with the commanders of November 2022.
Garnier spoke of “making the troops available”, which is one of the main points of the complaint against Bolsonaro. Former Army and FAB (Brazilian Air Force) commanders said he was the only one of the Armed Forces chiefs to signal support to the coup plan. His defense tries to contest this version.
Aldo was interrupted by Moraes. The minister wondered if he had witnessed the meeting of military commanders with Bolsonaro. He denied. Moraes ordered him to treat only the facts.
Then Aldo replied, “I do not admit censorship.” Moraes told him to behave, otherwise he would be “arrested for contempt.” After the tense dialogue, Almir Garnier’s defense resumed the questions and no longer returned to the discussion about the expression.
In the end, Aldo answered the defense of the military defense and explained how the command chain of command works.
Moraes then asked the audience to go regularly. He said he respected Garnier’s lawyer, Demosthenes Torres, and praised Aldo’s curriculum after the defense’s question if the navy alone could afford a coup.
“There is no technical knowledge to know if the navy alone can give a coup d’état. Aldo Rebelo is a historian and intelligent, he knows, for example, that in 64 did not need the entire chain of command to give the coup.
