Arsenal won on Saturday (24) the Female Champions League after defeating favorite Barcelona, who sought his third consecutive title. The English team won the decisive duel, played at the José Alvalade Stadium, in Lisbon, 1-0.
The only goal of the match was scored by Swedish striker Stina Blacktenius, just minutes after entering the second half of the match, hitherto tied, with few clear chances.
This is Arsenal’s second title in the main women’s club competition in Europe, after the previous triumph in 2007.
In a season full of ups and downs for the London club, with command exchanges and managed to compete with Chelsea for the English championship (12 points behind the rival), Dutch Renée Slegers knew how to instill character, confidence and winning spirit in the players until seeking a reaction with the conquest of the European trophy.
Barcelona, in turn, offered very little to deserve the maintenance of the title. In the first half, even with the control of the ball, Arsenal had the best goal opportunities.
After the break, when Barça turned the game into a monologue and the clear goal opportunities began to emerge, it was Blacktenius, who started as a replacement, who decided the final with a cross kick inside the area in a Catalan defense error after 29 minutes.
For Barcelona, who played his sixth final since 2019, with three titles (2021, 2023 and 2024), this defeat is a hard blow, especially for the great favoritism he had when entering the final.
