A week and a half ago, there seemed to be something like hope in Kyjiw. According to German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, the “largest diplomatic initiative, which has not existed in the past few months, to end the war in Ukraine”, move Russia to a 30-day ceasefire-otherwise there were threatening sanctions. Shortly after Merz’s taking office and a few days before the European Political Community meeting in Tirana, Europe wanted to demonstrate political unity in the end of the shoulder between Germany, France, Poland and Great Britain and demonstrate its responsibility for a diplomatic solution to the Ukraine secretary.
