The US Secretary of State also stressed that the objective is to “guarantee” that the sanctions “do not hinder the capacity of our partners to make investments that promote stability and advance the recovery and reconstruction efforts of Syria.”

The measures “will facilitate the supply of electricity, energy, water and sanitation, and will allow a more effective humanitarian response throughout Syria,” says Rubio, to also emphasize that Trump “has made it clear” that he hopes that relief (of sanctions) will be followed by “a rapid action of the Syrian government in important political priorities.”

New investments and private sector activities will be allowed “consistent with the strategy America First“And an” exceptional relief will be provided to allow US financial institutions “to maintain links with the Commercial Bank of Syria, the State Department details.

On May 13, Trump announced the lifting of sanctions against Syria in his speech in the Investment Forum in Saudi Arabia, ensuring that the sanctions in the Arab Republic have been “devastating”, although they had “an important function.” In his tour of Arab countries, Trump met with the interim president of Syria, Ahmed al Sharaa, who was leader of the Al Qaeda Syrian branch, but who has been moderating his speech over the years and has the support of Sunni leaders headed by Saudi Arabia.
