The Portuguese are preparing to travel in force in the hottest months of 2025. A recent study released by the Jetcost.pt flights and hotels search engine reveals that 77% of respondents plan to spend their holidays away from home. Get to know the destinations that are at the top of preferences this year.
Willingness to resist economic pressure
Despite the economic pressure felt by many families, the desire to travel remains strong. According to the data from Jetcost.pt, 77% of the Portuguese said they intend to enjoy a few days of rest outside their usual residence, while 7% are waiting for the last moment to decide, depending on the available budget. Already 16% indicated that they have no plans to travel to any destination.
With regard to choosing the height of the year, August remains the favorite month: 38% of respondents intend to travel at that time. However, June (10%) and September (12%) are gaining more and more fans, the result of milder temperatures and more affordable prices.
Short vacation dominate, but there are those who bet on long stays
Expected trips duration varies: 33% plan stays up to five days, 34% a full week, 25% between eight and fifteen days and 8% are extending their holidays up to one month. The average individual budget rounds the 1 140 euros.
Transportation and Accommodation: Automobile and Hotel are preferred
When it comes to transportation, the private car appears as the preferred medium (51%), followed by the plane (36%), the bus (7%), the train (3%) and the boat (3%). As for accommodation, hotels lead the choice of Portuguese (51%), ahead of the leased apartments (26%), apart-hotels (11%) and field houses (9%). Campism is an option for only 3%.
At the level of company, 50% of respondents intend to travel with their family, 24% with their partner, 16% with friends and 10% plan to do so alone.
Portugal continues at the top of preferences
National destinations continue to master preferences. Almost seven out of ten people indicated to prefer vacation within Portugal, 36% expressed preference for international destinations and 10% intend to combine both. Destinations with Sol and Praia lead by highlighting (63%), followed by large cities (24%) and interior or saw destinations (13%).

In the European scenario, Paris emerges as the most sought after city, accompanied by Palma de Mallorca, Barcelona, Rome and Tenerife. Already outside the European continent, the most desired destinations include Sao Paulo, New York, Praia (Cape Verde), Rio de Janeiro and Bali.
