Eduardo Girão announced a protocol of the investigation request 2 days before the election for the presidency of the entity, which has a single candidacy
The Senator (Novo-CE) gathered on Friday (23.MAI.2025) during pronouncement in the Senate plenary 28 signatures to file a request to open a CPI (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry) to investigate the (Brazilian Football Confederation).
The number exceeds the 27 minimum signatures required for ordering the order.
The initiative took place 2 days before the presidential election of the CBF, scheduled for Sunday (25.MAI.2025), which has a single candidacy after the removal of then President Ednaldo Rodrigues. The only candidate is, 41 -year -old, born in Roraima.
Girão, who has already presided over Fortaleza, has criticized the current conduct of the CBF and the relationship of the entity with Minister Gilmar Mendes, (Supreme Federal Court). The parliamentarian Ceará questioned transparency in the management of the Confederation.
“What we are seeing in the CBF is a derision. And we cannot, we do not have the right, especially those who love football, not to disapprove of the numerous complaints, without any explanation, which are happening in the CBF”said Girão during his statement.
The senator also expressed concern about the entity’s electoral process. “It will change 6 for half a dozen. It will continue a CBF without transparency”he said.
The plenary session of Friday (23.MAI) had a low presence of parliamentarians and was presided by the senator (PSB-RR), who is Pernambuco, but represents the state of Roraima. During the session, Rodrigues expressed support for Samir Xaud, whose father commands the Roraimense Football Federation for 4 decades.
“One thing that has caused strangeness is prejudice against a young doctor, who was born within this area of football. Oxalá this young Roraimense, if elected, can give a management shock at CBF so that we can return to the glorious times.”said Rodrigues.
The effective opening of the CPI now depends on the authorization of the president of the Senate, (União Brasil-AP). There is a possibility that some of the signatories retreat in their support to the commission.
Previous attempts to establish CPIs to investigate the CBF were recently recorded, but did not advance due to internal and external pressures, as indicated in the history of these initiatives.
