A dense white foam covered a stretch of the Tietê River in Salto, in the interior of São Paulo, this Friday (23). The substance, considered a reflection of the river pollution, completely covered the water.
The City Hall of Salto clarified that the foam is the result of the high concentration of detergents and other discharged waste in untreated water. The phenomenon in jump is due to local rapids and, especially at this time of year, the dry climate and with little rainfall, which favor the concentration of pollutants.

The city also stressed that the water that reaches the stretch of Salto is already polluted from the metropolitan region of São Paulo, and guided the population not to approach the river under these conditions. The situation is being monitored.
The Secretariat of Environment, Infrastructure and Logistics of the State of São Paulo (semil) informed the CNN that works in conjunction with municipalities to improve the water quality of the Tietê River.
Salto will join the Universalizsp Program in 2025, which offers technical support for the structuring of regional sanitation consortia. The goal is to ensure water safety and meet the goals of the new sanitation legal framework, which provides 99% water supply coverage and 90% sewage collection and treatment by 2033.
The jump adhesion to the Universalizsp is added to other actions ongoing in the region. The city is part of the Tietê River Integrated Inspection Group (GFI-Tietê), a task force involving several state and municipal entities to intensify the protection of water resources.
During the first phase, more than 5,000 km of navigable stretches were traveled and strategic areas for environmental preservation. Only in Salto, six environmental infractions were applied, including irregular deforestation and illegal fishing, aiming to combat the causes of pollution in the basin.
