Vehicle hit and thrown several people from a bridge, in a fall of several meters
At least ten people died and 11 were injured on Saturday (24) in an accident involving a bus in the quindío department in western, after a collision caused several passengers to be thrown out of the vehicle, Humboldt University said.
The vehicle crashed and hurled several people from a bridge in a fall of several meters. The victims are students and university professors who participated in an academic excursion.
“We inform you about the sensitive loss of many of our companions, students, teachers and administrative staff […] The institution decrees mourning ”for two days, said in a statement the educational center located in the city of Armenia. In total, 26 passengers traveled on the bus from the Department of Tolima (West) to Quindío.
We are trying to “establish the conditions of this unfortunate accident,” said police commander Luis Fernando Atuesta about the incident, in which the driver lost control of the bus.
In 2024, Colombia recorded an average of 22 daily deaths from traffic accidents, according to the National Highway Authority.
