The 41 -year -old doctor Samir Xaud was confirmed on Sunday (25.MAI.2025) as new president of (Brazilian Football Confederation). The leader of the was a single candidate, who was dismissed by the Rio court. 103 of the 141 votes. It will command by 2029 the entity that had in 2024 of R $ 1.5 billion.
Xaud had great support: 25 of the 27 federations State vote for him, as well as clubs such as Palmeiras, Vasco and Grêmio. Its election, however, was marked by 21 of the 40 clubs of series A and B, which did not participate in the vote in protest against the entity’s current governance model.
The leader specializes in sports medicine and would succeed his father, Zeca Xaud, in the Federation of Roraima, where the family has been working for about 40 years. In his campaign, Samir promised to strengthen women’s football, invest in the north and northeast base categories and revise the CBF statute to make it, according to him, “More transparent and democratic”.
The clubs that boycotted the election defend structural changes. Among the main demands are the review of the CBF electoral system – which gives more weight to the votes of federations – the creation of an independent league to organize national competitions and greater management transparency.
The current model, in which each federation is entitled to 3 votes, while Serie A clubs are 2 and B, 1, was criticized by absent teams, including Corinthians, Flamengo, Fluminense, Santos and Red Bull Bragantino. The expressive absence highlighted the political crack that affects Brazilian football.
The election was held after years of CBF, with successive removal and punishments to former presidents, such as Ricardo Teixeira, Marco Polo del Nero and Rogério Caboclo, all involved in allegations of corruption or harassment. The new president assumes the mission of trying to pacify the political environment and implement the promised changes.
