Fisherman's Day celebrated in Quarteira with Snacks and Old Washed

The city of Quarteira prepares to receive another edition of the fisherman’s snacks, between May 30 and June 1, on the Passeio das Dunas, in an initiative promoted to honor the local fishing community.

According to the organization, the event is part of the Fisherman’s Day commemorations, which is marked on 31 May, and provides tribute to the historical and cultural importance of fishermen, “central figures of the maritime identity of Quarteira and the national coastal economy”.

A – Association of Quarteira’s shipowners and fishermen underlines that the program integrates “three days of conviviality, musical animation and gastronomy”, with the snacks of the sea to occupy a prominent place. The delicacies are made by the families of the fishermen, who assume the role of chefs of the event, presenting traditional recipes of fish and seafood, in honor of local flavors.

One of the most emblematic moments of the celebrations will be the traditional washed, scheduled for May 31, at 18:00, on the beach in front of the Dune Tour. The population is invited to participate in the traditional “pulling from the network” to Earth, recreating an old fishing practice. Captured fish will be, as usual, distributed by the gifts.

The event invites places and visitors to know closely the customs and way of life of fishing communities, in a popular party environment that celebrates the sea, culture and work of those who live it.
