Albares insists that the solution of the two states is “the only alternative”
The Spanish Foreign Minister, José Manuel Albares, said Sunday that the solution of the two states is “the only alternative” for the conflict between Israel and Palestine.
“What is the alternative? Killing all the Palestinians? Displacing where, to the moon, all the Palestinians? (…) Give them Israeli nationality?” He has asked in some statements to the French public broadcaster France Info.
Albares has highlighted, a few hours after the beginning of the meeting of the Madrid group in which European and Muslim countries participate to find an exit to the situation in Gaza, that this fifth appointment brings together “to more countries than ever”, about twenty. The first objective of the appointment, he said, is to “stop this war”, which has made Gaza “an immense cemetery”, followed by the entry “Massive and without obstacles of humanitarian aid, neutrally.”
And the second is to seek “an authentic political solution” through a “realistic and viable” Palestinian state, which would also give “stability and peace to every Middle East.” To his forehead there must be a reinforced Palestinian authority, he said, emphasizing that the AP would be in a better situation to do it “if her legitimacy” had not been undermined by Israel, as he made retaining the deliveries of money from taxes.
The head of the Spanish diplomacy stressed that the AP is the alternative against Hamas, which is “a terrorist organization” and will not be at the Madrid meeting, because it constitutes “a real problem” for the search for peace.
Several European countries such as Spain, Ireland and Norway have recognized the Palestinian State during the Gaza conflict, and France and Saudi Arabia will co -challenge a conference in New York on June 18 to try to launch a cross recognition of Palestine and Israel.
Albares has made it clear that Spain “does not have to give lessons” to any other country, such as France, about the recognition of Palestine, although it has insisted that this step is “the best way to protect the solution of the two states.” (EFE)
