Opposition parliamentarians act to maintain pressure on the government because of increasing tax rate tax rates (IOF).

The measure was announced last Thursday (24) and generated immediate criticism from the market. The Ministry of Finance, then.

The next day, Minister Fernando Haddad summoned a press conference to explain the retreat. Hours later, the opposition leader in the House, Deputy Luciano Zucco (PL-RS), charged more information. This time, formally to Congress.

“I immediately filed a request for the call of Minister Fernando Haddad, who will have to go to Parliament to explain this barberage – such a disastrous maneuver that, a few hours after the negative repercussion, forced the government itself to retreat from part of the measures announced,” Zucco said in a statement.

The call for call – which has no date to be analyzed – was submitted to the Financial Inspection and Control Commission (CFFC). In parallel, Zucco also tries to speed up a project to block all changes announced by the government.

“We will not accept partial setbacks. We will not accept crumbs. The retreat has to be total. None of these measures can stand up,” said the opposition leader.

The name most quoted by the opposition to report the proposal is that of Deputy Nikolas Ferreira (PL-MG). The strategy is to give visibility to the theme. The parliamentarian is one of the representatives of the right with the greatest support of supporters on social networks.

Earlier this year, Nikolas was the key figure of the opposition against the government’s proposal on PIX transactions inspection. The material produced by him on social networks generated wear and tear and also led the government to retreat.

In the Senate, opposition leader Rogério Marinho (PL-RN) also reinforced the offensive to overthrow the increase in IOF. He presented a project similar to that of the House.

The proposal is to stop the executive decree that raised the IOF and the other rule published shortly after to revoke part of the first measures disclosed. For Marinho, the retreat showed by the executive.

Bolsonaro

In recent days, former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) has also reinforced criticism of IOF’s discharge. For the former executive chief, the measure impacts and “hinders” the lives of entrepreneurs in the country. He states that he is “in permanent contact with PL leaders to evaluate legal measures” against the government’s decree.

“The Lula government persists in raising IOF to companies, a measure that will reduce investments, make access to credit, increase default and generate unemployment. Although it has retreated by just two points related to IOF on exchange rate operations, the other increases follow,” Bolsonaro said in the X (former Twitter).
