At least eight people died and another 45 were injured after a sandstorm followed by rain reaching parts of Punjab province in Pakistan on Saturday, the country’s provincial disaster management authority (PDMA) reported in a press release.
The deaths were attributed to the collapse of houses and the permanence of people in insecure places. Some residences were also damaged, according to the statement.
In Lahore, the capital of Punjab province, trees and solar panels were affected. PDMA asked residents not to leave their homes.
The storm occurred after a wave of heat that continued during the week in parts of Pakistan.
