The president of the, defended on Sunday (25) the measure of his administration to prevent the enrollment of foreign students in, after a judge suspend the decision, considered illegal by the University of Great prestige.
“Why doesn’t Harvard say that nearly 31% of their students are from foreign countries, and yet these countries, some not friendly with the United States, pay nothing for their students’ education, nor do they intend to do it?” Trump posted on his social truth platform.
“We want to know who these foreign students are, a reasonable request, as we give Harvard billions of dollars, but Harvard is not exactly affordable,” he added.
On Thursday (22), National Security Secretary Kristi Noem revoked Harvard University’s authority to enroll foreigners, threatening the future of thousands of students and the valuable resources they injects into the institution.
Kristi Noem had threatened last month to block international students unless the University delivered files about the “illegal and violent activities” of visa holders.
But Harvard filed a lawsuit and judge Allison Burroughs of the Massachusetts Federal Court, which banned on Friday (23) “the Trump administration to implement (…) the revocation of Sevis certification (Student and Exchange Visitors Program).” The government measure was suspended until a preliminary judicial hearing on May 29.
More than 25% of Harvard students are foreigners. Administration threatened the university with a $ 9 billion revision in government financing, froze a first installment of $ 2.2 billion in subsidies and $ 60 million in official contracts. He also deported a researcher at the Harvard Medical School.
