The assistant coach João Martins, who commanded Palmeiras in the absence of suspended Abel Ferreira, spared no criticism of arbitration after the 2-0 loss to Flamengo on Sunday (25) at Allianz Parque.
In an interview after the match, Martins stated that referee Ramon Abatti Abel was influenced by VAR and suggested that there was bad faith in decisions that harmed his team.
“Nowadays the Var who rules in the game, Ramon (Abatti Abel) cannot make a decision without the VAR tells him yes. Before coming, we watched the Portuguese Cup final, the referee scored a penalty, and VAR did not intervene. It is clear to the rule.
The main Palmeirense complaint was about the penalty scored on Arrascaeta, a move that originated Flamengo’s first goal. The referee initially sent the game to follow, but turned back after being called by VAR.
“The second penalty is left to laugh. Ramon was one meter and told him. Murilo used his body to protect himself. Ramon had the courage to let go, but the external pressure is so great that VAR calls and reinforces with the images,” said the assistant.
Palmeiras also had a penalty in favor in the first stage, by rolling of Varela hand, but Piquerez wasted the charge. Later, the Palmeirenses still complained about an alleged penalty about Vitor Roque, which was not revised by the video referee.
“We know it was impossible to mark two penalties against Flamengo,” said João Martins.
“No, the obligation was to score because then it will always be against. So sometimes we revolted so much,” the assistant added, visibly annoyed by what considered an unequal treatment.
