The governor of Rio de Janeiro, Claudio Castro (PL), said he will make a decision on the resignation of his position between February and March next year to be able to run for a Senate chair, which he said is a “real possibility”.
“The decision will be made based on research and next year’s scenario. Obviously, I will not abandon management if we are not well positioned,” he said in conversation with journalists during the Summit Seminar of the Lide Group in Sao Paulo, on Monday, 26.
With the appointment of his deputy governor, Thiago Pampola (MDB),-with whom he has had public Rusgas in the past-to the State Court of Auditors (TCE), the Rio de Janeiro executive would be commanded by the president of the Rio de Janeiro Legislative Assembly (Alerj), Rodrigo Bacellar (União Brasil), ally of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

During the press conference, the governor said the reasons for nomination were about the need for a “politician” in the court.
“Thiago had been on my radar for some time. He was a state deputy for three terms, secretary of state three times, deputy governor. Unlike other states, where he appointed his wife, son, family members, we indicated someone with political trajectory, management experience,” Castro continued. “The Constitution defines the composition of the Courts of Auditors: four nominated by Parliament, three by the Executive, two of them technicians-one of the Attorney’s Office and one from the Auditors’ body. The TCE-RJ is the only one in the country with five technicians and only one politician.
The governor of Rio de Janeiro also stated that placing “someone with experience in management” helps to prevent the court from becoming a “punitivist cut”.

He used the example of a manager who needs to buy emergency drugs, because the bidding is deserted. But in the “cold letter” of the process, the technical counselor allegedly fined the manager, even if the attitude was correct.
