What if surrendering strategically to treats, after all better option than making a huge effort not to eat them? Thus suggests a team of scientists.
If you are a fan of cakes, cookies, crackers and all these “forbidden” foods, a new investigation from the University of Urbana-Champaign University offers you a turnaround: don’t avoid them. And no, this does not mean that these foods are healthy – only that, psychologically, Eating a little bit can help you lose weight.
Yours, published in January in the magazine Physiology and BehaviorIt shows that containing a wish makes it very difficult for someone to lose weight.
“We recruited obese patients with ages between 18 and 75 years old who had comorbilities such as hypertension and diabetes and could benefit from weight loss,” researcher Manabu Nakamura told.
“Wishes are a big problem for many people. If you have many desires, it is very difficult to lose weight. Even when they can control their desires and lose weight, if the desires come back, they recover the weight. ”
“If you are eating and snacking at random, it is very difficult to control,” said Nakamura. “Some dietary programs exclude certain foods. Our plan used a ‘inclusion strategy’, in which people incorporated small portions of desired foods in a well -balanced meal ”.
That is, it is simpler to lose weight if your desires are moderately satisfied for some food (even if it is not healthy).
And this “inclusion” method resulted to the study participants: its average weight loss was 6.7%according to the investigators.
“The popular myth is that it has to have a very strong desire to defend itself with temptation, but that is not the case. Fluctuations in eating patterns, hours and quantities of meals also cause desires. It has to be consistent.”
