Marcelo Cruz, about the Masters Olympia: ‘I’m going to win’ – 26/05/2025 – Muscle

Since 1965, when the first edition of Olympia took place, no Brazilian man was able to win the most important title of world bodybuilding as an athlete. However, history can change this year. On August 9 and 10, in Japan, there will be Masters Olympia, an exclusive division for athletes 40 years of age or older.

In the Open category, where there is no weight limit, Brazil will be represented by Odilon Batista and Marcelo Cruz, who currently lives the best moment of his career as a professional bodybuilder.

In April, the Santa Catarina athlete was third in Arnold Sports Festival South America, the Arnold Classic Brazil. Weeks later, it was Pittsburgh to put himself among the best bodybuilders on the planet.

Speaking about Masters Olympia, Cruz points out that the idea is to win the title. In an exclusive interview with the blog, the physical educator also reveals that “he has thought” in the event of making history by winning the show.

Despite the optimism, Cruz manages expectations and highlights the fact that bodybuilding is judged subjectively, so there is no way to make sure about a possible positive result: “I don’t like to talk much so as not to create much expectation about the public. In our sport, you depends on arbitration. Sometimes arbitration wants a more bulky physicist, for example. Banana, others, apple.

According to Cruz, the idea is that he compits a little heavier than in the last two shows with the same conditioning – a factor by which he is most known – presented on these occasions. “My intention is to maintain the conditioning of the latest championships, but present a physicist 1.5kg or 2kg heavier,” he says.

The bodybuilder also explains the strategy that should follow in Masters Olympia, as well as the eventual dangers that this tactic can bring: “Even if I get a little fuller, I will not be less conditioned than my opponents. The only danger of this strategy is a possible abdominal distension, which sometimes happens when the athlete wants to fill too much at the end. So I have to be cautious.”
