The United States warns Maduro that he rejects “the electoral farce in the Esequibo”
This Sunday, Chavismo has called to vote by authorities in the state of Guyana Esequiba, created last year on the territory in dispute with Guyana. The United States has warned that it rejects “all attempts by Nicolás Maduro and its illegitimate regime of undermining Guyana’s territorial integrity including this last electoral farce in the Esequibo region.”
At the time of starting the voting, Guyanés President Irfaan Ali, had also warned that he was ready to defend every centimeter of the Esequibo. “Those who seek to threaten us, who become ambitious, should know that our troops in the front line are ready to defend each inch from our country. Under different circumstances and challenges.” Days before, Randy Jagdeo had been arrested, a Guyanese citizen who wrote on Facebook that the Esquibo belonged to Venezuela. He was accused of incitement to betrayal of the homeland and then released on bail, according to local media.
Some 21,000 voters in 12 centers were relocated in the parishes of the Costa and San Isidro of the Sifontes municipality of the state of Bolívar for the constituency of the Esequibo. The tumerem parish was left out. Maduro pretends to choose, in addition to the governor, eight national and seven regional parliamentarians for the representation of this territory.
