The president of the state company, Magda Chambriard, says that at least 40% of the content of the vessels should be done in Brazil
Petrobras President Magda Chambriard said on Monday (26.MAI.2025) that the state -owned company intends to hire 48 with at least 40% of national content by the end of 2026.
“When we talk about 48 vessels to be hired in 2 years, we say: ‘Let’s hire where? Where will the vessels be made? We need this national industry to be attentive and prepared to serve us,”, He said during the Nova Indústria Brasil event, held at the headquarters of BNDES (National Bank for Economic and Social Development), in Rio de Janeiro.
Petrobras has expanded its fleet of ships in the perspective of increasing offshore production in the coming years, driven by the entry of new platforms in the field of Buzios, a pre-salt area located in the Santos Basin.
The initiative also meets a guideline by President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who charges the state actions aimed at creating jobs and strengthening the national economy, with stimulation of the naval industry.
The state president also highlighted the company’s plans to expand the supply of natural gas and promote prices. “We do not forget the gas. We are committed to delivering more and reducing prices, with an eye on petrochemicals,” he said.
Equatorial margin
On the last Thursday (22.MAI), Chambriard stated that Petrobras a plan to punch 8 exploratory wells on the Foz do Amazonas basin, on the equatorial margin, which extends along the north coast of the country, from Amapá to Rio Grande do Norte.
The project includes the Poço Fza-M-59, known as “Morpho”, which still depends on the issuance of environmental license by Ibama (Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources).
The initiative is part of the company’s strategy to expand its exploratory activities in the northern region of the country. The Foz do Amazonas basin is considered an area with geological potential for the presence of oil and natural gas.
Drilling the wells is scheduled to occur in the coming years, according to Petrobras planning. The specific schedule for starting operations was not detailed by the company.
