At the age of 96, Ján Pleva, Professor of the University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy (UVLF) in Košice, died. Had a great merit in the formation and formation of the study field of food hygiene and in the past He was at the forefront of the Veterinary Service in Slovakia. Zuzana Bobriková, spokeswoman for UVLF, informed about his death from Friday (23 May).
Professor Pleva was co -author of several textbooks, scientific and professional works and brought up a number of experts. “In the last days of his life, he was actively involved in professional discussions, such as solving the current disease of the clinker and the Kriva,” said the spokeswoman of UVLF.
Pleva has been the head of the veterinary service in Slovakia since 1965. “He worked in Bratislava for four years and under his leadership in Slovakia there was an eradication of tuberculosis and brucellosis. The rich practical and organizational experience began to apply after returning to the school in the reconstruction of study and study plans,” Informed Bobriková. Between 1975 and 1989 and 1991 – 1994, Pleva was headed by the Department of Food Hygiene. Subsequently, he became the director of the State Veterinary Institute in Košice, where he worked until 2000.
„In 2023, he became the winner of the first annual Medicus Veterinarius Prize, determined by the leading personalities of veterinary medicine working in various sectors of science, research, theory and practice. The prizes are awarded jointly by the Chamber of Veterinary doctors of the Slovak Republic, the University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy in Košice and the State Veterinary and Food Administration of the Slovak Republic, ”added Bobriková.
