Amid protests, Paes gathers with street beaches from Rio

The mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes (PSD), meets in the morning (27) with street vendors to discuss the impacts of the new decree of the beaches of the state capital, expected to take effect on the 31st of this month.

The meeting takes place amid strong criticism of waterfront workers and intermediation of the ruling base in the City Council, especially the PSD councilors, the mayor’s own party. Among the most controversial points of the decree are the ban on live musical performances and restricting items such as glass bottles.

On Monday (26), south of Rio, charging more dialogue. Now, parliamentarians try to build an alternative through the “Orla Statute”, a bill by Councilman Flávio Valle (PSD), who seeks to focus the rules in a more negotiated text.
