Allies close to former President Jair Bolsonaro expect Donald Trump’s government to apply sanctions to Minister Alexandre de Moraes of the Supreme Court (STF) within the next ten days. The information was released on Monday night (26) by columnist Monica Bergamo, from S.Paulo Folha.
According to the newspaper, the managements are being led by Deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP), who has been directly acted to convince US authorities of the relevance of sanctions, initially against Moraes and their families. Other STF ministers would only be targeted in a second stage if they sympathized with Moraes.
Three court ministers were spared the Bolsonarist offensive: André Mendonça and Kassio Nunes Marques, nominated for the Supreme Court by Jair Bolsonaro, and Luiz Fux, nominated by Dilma Rousseff, but was considered an ally of pockets.

Fux has sought positions that contrast with those of Moraes in recent votes, which has repercussions positively among the former president’s allies, the newspaper pointed out. In a public demonstration on Paulista Avenue, former first lady Michelle Bolsonaro praised one of the magistrate’s votes, calling him “wise” and thanking his position.
Understand the case
The expectation of sanctions by the Trump government against Alexandre de Moraes occurs amid a process of climbing between sectors of the Brazilian right and the judiciary. The case climbed US diplomacy chief Marco Rubio to state on May 21 that sanctions against Moraes were “under analysis” and there was “great possibility” of being applied.
The legal basis for the measure would be the global magnitsky law, which allows the US to punish foreigners for corruption or human rights violations. Sanctions include blockade of goods, freezing accounts, suspension of visas and restriction of entry in the US. Moraes has been the target of criticism of Bolsonaro allies and figures linked to the American right, especially for decisions that have determined the blockade of social media’s profiles on social networks.
