Electricity bills are high, and they are a component of many different devices, it would seem that a regular, small electric kettle does not have a lot of influence on it, but the costs of using it, especially frequent boiling of full kettle and using only half or even less water can contribute to increasing the bill.
Remember that the older the equipment, the more energy it can use. Usually, kettles have the power between 1850 W and 2400 W. We will take 2000 W (2 kW) for hypnotx. The time needed to boil a liter of water is 3-4 minutes. The more water in the kettle, the more slowly it is cooked. The full kettle (1.5 – 1.7 l) usually needs about 6 minutes. Therefore, it is important to cook as much water as we need at the moment – if we want to brew two teas, it makes no sense, prepare the whole kettle.
Therefore, the popular kettle will use from 0.1 kWh to 0.13 kWh of energy for a single boil of a liter of water – because 2 kW multiplied for 3 minutes (0.05 hours) gives us 0.1 kWh, or for 4 minutes (0.067 h) gives 0.13 kWh. We can assume that most people use a kettle from 5 to 10 times a day, which gives us Electricity consumption between 0.5 kWh and 1.3 kWh.

In Poland, we have to pay PLN 0.6212 gross for 1 kWh – prices were frozen until 31/12/2025. Thus, assuming that our kettle needs 3 minutes to boil a liter of water and use it 5 times a day, we will pay 31 groszy for the day of using the equipment. It will be just over PLN 9 a month, and over PLN 111 a year. Using the kettle 10 times a day, the annual cost of using the device will be over PLN 200. This price will be even higher if we boil more water than we need – the kettle then works longer, which takes more electricity, and we do not use boiled water, and then cook it again, which consumes energy and increases electricity bills.
Therefore, it is worth cooking as much water as we need – It is also important to descend the kettle, water can boil longer through the sediment.
