A huge explosion shook a chemical plant in the province of Shandong, east of China, around noon (local time) on Tuesday, 27, according to the state station CCTVwith thick clouds of visible black smoke on site.

The explosion was so powerful that it broke the windows of a warehouse more than three kilometers away from the factory, according to a video shared by a local resident, who declined to be identified for fear of retaliation.

The explosion occurred in the Chemical Co. Gaomi Youdao, located in an industrial park in the city of Weifang. The company manufactures pesticides and chemicals for medical use, and has more than 500 employees, according to corporate records.

Rescue teams were sent to the scene of the incident, but the authorities have not yet announced if there were victims. According to CCTVlocal firefighters mobilized more than 230 professionals for the operation.
