Hamas accepts ceasefire proposal, but Israel denies agreement

Extremist group says he has approved plan with truce and hostage release; Israeli government and sent from the US reject the terms

A Palestinian Authority on Monday (26.MAI.2025) that Hamas has accepted a proposal for ceasefire in the Gaza range presented by the special envoy of the United States, Steve Witkoff. The plan would include the release of 10 Israeli hostages and a 70 -day truce.

The Israeli government, however, denied the existence of the proposal by the US and rejected the terms attributed to the plan. According to an Israeli representative, no authority in the country would accept the terms described.

Witkoff also denied that Hamas accepted a proposal of his own. In a statement to the agency Axios, The US envoy stated that the content discussed was “Totally unacceptable” and did not correspond to what had been presented.

According to the Palestinian source, near Hamas, the proposal would have been delivered to the group through mediators. The plan established the release of hostages in two stages and the partial withdrawal of the Israeli troops of Gaza.

An anonymous Israeli government official told local press that the terms received are unacceptable for any “Responsible Government”. According to him, the demands of Hamas make the “Objectives of the military operation” and prevent the liberation of hostages.

The same source stressed that the proposal does not correspond to the structure negotiated by Witkoff and reiterated that there was no positive signs of Hamas in relation to it. “The group’s demands are very far from the original United States draft. There is no genuine disposition from Hamas to advance with an agreement. Israel remains committed to the proposal presented by Witkoff.”he declared.
