Police broke a network of illegal meat traders: in deplorable conditions they found hundreds of sick animals

The Spanish police announced on Monday that She broke a criminal network that illegally sold the meat of heavily malnourished and sick sheep and goats. Investigators have found that the goods were sold without any control to at least nine Asian restaurants and even private households via the Internet, TASR writes, according to the DPA report citing police statement.

The most affected was the Madrid community, which also includes the capital. A total of five people were detained, with another 12 persons being investigated. The Spanish authorities also prevented four restaurants.

The police spokesman told reporters that during a tour of several illegal slaughterhouses, more than 200 sick and dying animals were found in San Fernando de Henares, situated east of Madrid. They were held there in a dirty environment – surrounded by cutting -off animal heads and rats. Both El País and other media described this place as a “slaughterhouse of horror”.
