The order was taken on Tuesday, and carries the signature of Marco Rubio, secretary of state. The cable says: “With immediate effect, in preparation for the extension of the review and verification of a history required in social networks, the consular sections should not add more appointments for visas of students or exchange visitors (F, M and J) until new guidelines are issued, which we foresee will occur in the coming days.” The text adds that already scheduled interviews can follow their course.
This newspaper has contacted the United States Embassy in Madrid to ask for details, but has not obtained an answer.
