UNRWA denounces the illegal entry of settlers at its headquarters in Jerusalem this

The United Nations Agency for Palestinian refugees () denounced on Tuesday the “illegal incursion” of settlers and at least an Israeli parliamentarian at its main headquarters in East Jerusalem, which threatened to turn into a new Jewish settlement in the occupied territory.

“They entered without authorization in the Unrwa complex in Jerusalem is busy. They carried flags with them and placed them there while claiming our facilities for the establishment of a new Israeli settlement,” the spokeswoman for this body, Juliette Touma, told journalists in a teleconference.

He added that this action has been only the last in the several months of Israel harassment against this agency and its workers.

“This unauthorized income to the premises of the UNRWA violates Israel’s obligation to respect the UN premises and humanitarian workers. It has been an illegal provocation,” he denounced.

Israel has prohibited the UNRWA from continuing to operate since last January, despite which its local staff continues to do so in Gaza, and stopped authorizing the visas for its international employees.

Beyond the fact that the total blockade at the entry of humanitarian aid prevents them from fulfilling their transport and distribution mission of help, the Palestinian employees of the agency manage the places where hundreds of thousands of displaced people take refuge, as well as health centers and mobile clinics that cover Gaza to offer the most basic medical care.
