Barroso defends participation in event with CEO of IFOOD – 27/05/2025 – Brasilia Today

The president of the (Supreme Federal Court), defended on Tuesday (27) his participation in, Diego Barreto, last week.

“In Brazil there are two large categories of people: those who do something and those who are right. Therefore, we have to keep doing and leave those who are right and need to sell newspaper talking nonsense,” said the minister at the opening of the session of the (National Council of Justice).

Dinner was organized for the collection of private initiative funds in support of the CNJ Affirmative Action Program for entry into the judiciary. The project, in partnership with (Getúlio Vargas Foundation), is sponsored by companies from various branches.

Today, 96 black candidates receive scholarships of R $ 3,000 per month to prepare the contest for judges. The goal is to reach 100 bags.

A video released on social networks showed Barroso singing to the microphone next to the IFood CEO during the celebration. The recording raised criticism of the participation of the president of the Supreme in events with entrepreneurs interested in action in the court.

“My outraged comment is that we made a dinner to raise funds for the program, and the story says I met with entrepreneurs under the pretext of raising funds. So it is good. Incultura is a difficult problem to remedy in Brazil,” Barroso added.

In a statement, the Supreme Court stated that the program has as an audience black and indigenous candidates, with or without disabilities, already approved in the National Examination of the Judiciary.

“The scholarship program is based on the constitution and the status of racial equality, which provide as a duty of the State and society to guarantee equal opportunities, recognizing to every Brazilian citizen, regardless of ethnicity or skin color, the right to participation in the community, especially in political, economic, business, educational, cultural and sports activities, defending their dignity and religious and cultural values.”

Diego Barreto, IFOOD CEO, said in a note sent to Sheet“that the charity dinner was a personal initiative”, organized at the request of the leaders of the Affirmative Action Program for entry into the judiciary, created in 2024 by CNJ and the Getúlio Vargas Foundation, in partnership with the Zumbi dos Palmares University, and has the support of several companies.

“It was attended by 60 participants, including magistrates, journalists, educators, NGOs, students, jurists, startups and other supporters of the program,” he said in the statement.

The trial must have an impact on employment contracts of employers with iFood. The company entered the process as Amici Curiae (court friend), a kind of third party interested in the action that can clarify technical issues involved in the case.

The rapporteur of the process is Minister Edson Fachin. It is up to President Barroso himself to define a date for the judgment of the appeal.
