After Tuesday’s bear attack near the Slovenian capital of Ljubljana, a woman is attacked in a critical condition. The police reported on Wednesday, TASR writes, according to AP report.
The attack took place on the edge of the forest in the village of Škofljica, approximately ten kilometers southeast of the capital. After the incident, the bear fled back to the forest. The police called on the inhabitants to be careful and the areas were temporarily avoided.
The incident took place only a few days after the authorities approved the shooting of 206 brown bears. Their population in Slovenia has grown to approximately 1000 individuals.
Slovenia, an alpine country with more than two million inhabitants is densely forested and has a number of protected natural areas. The authorities occasionally allow the catch of bears or wolves despite the strong resistance of conservation organizations, AP said.
