Social Security Payment Calendar: subsidies and pensions yet to pay in February

Nearly one million of the Social Security Reforms received at the end of 2024 an old age pension of up to 500 euros, equivalent to 51% of the total, and below the poverty threshold fixed for that year.

Based on data from the Ministry of Labor, Solidarity and Social Security (MTSSS), an analysis by CGTP points out that “close to 1 million Social Security older (986,200) pensioners received less than 500 euros of pension per month”, the equivalent of 51.2% of the total.

This value is below the poverty threshold fixed for that year, which was 542 euros, assuming the annual yield divided by 14.

Of the total of almost one million people who received up to 500 euros, almost seven out of ten (703.5 thousand, the equivalent of 68.2%) were women and 31.7% (282.7 thousand) were men.

“Another 25.8% received between 500 and 750 euros, corresponding to close to 497,000 old age pensioners of both sexes,” notes the Union Central.

Thus, in total, nearly 1.5 million retirees received up to 750 euros, that is, 77% of the total social security pensioners (1.92 million).

According to the document, there are also 102,789 that earned between 1,200 euros and 2,000 euros, 26,907 who received between 2,000 and 2,500 euros, 14,872 that increased between 2,500 and 3,000 euros, while 26,880 received 3,000 euros or more.

That is, about 2% (41,752,000) received an old age pension equal to or greater than 2,500 euros, according to Lusa calculations, based on CGTP analysis.

“In social security, which covers most of the country’s retired and pensioners, the average pension values are very low, especially in the case of women,” warns CGTP.

In December last year, “the average value of old age pensions was about 666 euros a month in the set of all regimes, just above the poverty threshold,” he says.

“Pensions of the general regime are little higher (516 euros in the average of regimes and 524 euros in the general regime), but in either case they are always lower among women (surrounding the 62% of the value received by men), because their salaries are also, on average, lower and the shorter contributors,” concludes CGTP.

This analysis is part of a data set that has been conducting it within the National Conference that the Commission for Equality between Women and Men-CIMH/CGTP-in will hold on June 5, in order to discuss the situation of women in the world of work.
