Ukrainian climber Andrew Ushakov, who climbed Everest in just four days, was released on bail after being arrested in Nepal because he did not declare foreign currency.
Ukrainian climber Andrew Ushakov, who ended a trip to Everest peak in a four-day record time, was released on his arrest for undeclared foreign currency transport, says an Nepalese official for Reuters, reports.
“He has to face the accusations in court,” said Chandi Prasad Ghimire, the general director of the fiscal investigation department. “If you choose to raise your hands (not to fight the case in court, no), loses the bail,” he added.
According to Ghimire, the bail was set at $ 60,000-three times the amount of Ushakov, 40 years old, when he was arrested on Sunday.
“Andrew has now come out of arrest after a misunderstanding,” Ushakov’s public relations team said on Tuesday. “He is grateful for the support he has received and currently works to clarify all aspects with the competent authorities,” she said.
Ushakov, an engineer living in the United States, flew from New York to Nepal on May 15, before escalating Everest without going through the usual period for several weeks of acclimatization.
He said he did not use Xenon, the gas inhaled by four former British soldiers from the special forces who climbed the highest mountain on the ground last week, after leaving London. The climbers used Xenon to precede on the environment with a low oxygen level they were going to meet on their way to the top of 8,849 meters.
