Democracy is in danger, says Geraldo Alckmin

In a speech originally to be read by Lula, the vice president said that state relations cannot “be at the mercy of political differences”

The vice president, (PSB), said this 3rd (27.MAI.2025) that democracy “It’s in danger”And that grows “Unilateralism” in diplomacy between countries.

The speech was during an event referring to the day of the diplomat, marked by the delivery of the Order of Rio Branco and the graduation of the Eunice Paiva class of the Rio Branco Institute. The event was held at the Itamaraty Palace in Brasilia.

The speech would be originally read by the President (PT), however, of the last Thursday (26.MAI) forced him to cancel the official commitments the next day.

During the speech, Alckmin also stressed that dialogue between nations is the only solution for international conflicts. “State relations cannot be at the mercy of political differences between governments”, completed.

For newly graduated diplomats, the vice president extended Lula’s message about fighting a “Age of denial of diplomacy” and the defense of multilateralism.

Alckmin also defended the regional integration, a recurring agenda in the executive’s heads at international events. Said that gathering the 12 South American presidents became “Practically impossible” and that “Global South Voices will not be properly represented” in the World Bank and the IMF (International Monetary Fund).
