FIESP: Dream of its own business is a challenge to attracting workers

The desire for undertakeespecially among young people, has become a challenge to the attraction of labor in companies amid the scenario of warm labor market and scarcity of workers pointed by some sectors.

This is the portrait brought by a study, based on qualitative and quantitative research with Paulista workersproduced by the locomotive institute at the request of the Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo (FIESP) and Senai-SP.

Among its highlights, the research points to the desire for only 11% of participants in being an industry employee. More than half (58%) showed preference in self -employed.

The perception of the research participants is that the generation of his parents had a greater desire to work In the industry, services, commerce or construction sectors.

At the same time that only one in four Paulistas (27%) feels fully accomplished in the current work63% said that having a own business corresponds to the biggest professional dream.

In addition, it shows the survey, 64% see in the entrepreneurship a way to gain autonomy and quality of life.

Time flexibility is seen as one of the biggest advantages in self -employedas well as a lower level of pressure and stress.

Workers do not ignore, however, the risk of lack of safety and protection in case of illness, accident or unforeseen events.

Between April 23 and 30, the quantitative research of the study listened, by telephone, 1,500 workers from 18 to 59 years from the state of São Paulo. The margin of error is 2.5 percentage points.

The goal was to better understand the possible reasons behind the scarcity of labor in the São Paulo industry.

Beyond the search for flexibility and autonomy, as well as the perception of workers that they will earn more for time worked outside companies, the evaluation of the researchers is that the proliferation of digital influencers is contributing to the construction of a New ideas about work.

Promises of rapid ascension on social networks are opposed to slower professional growth of employment with a formal contract.

“The entrepreneurial speech of workers does not stop growing,” said the president of the locomotive institute, Renato Meirelles, during the presentation of the study at FIESP headquarters.

“Today we have a problem of hiring labor. We have to start worrying about retention,” added Meirelles, referring to the interest in also undertaking by the people who are employed.
