Just over an hour from the Portuguese capital, there is a village that begins to stand out in international vacation scripts, but is still out of the radar of the crowds. The landscape is marked by rice fields, endless sand extensions and a lagoon that invites quiet tours.
This place was recently pointed out as one of the best holiday destinations for international reference publications, but despite the growing attention, it maintains a calm and little explored atmosphere.
According to the Lusitanian style, Condé Nast Traveler magazine classified this village as “the New Bear”, in a list published in 2021 with the best vacation places worldwide.
Its own rhythm and outside the usual routes
With about 1,600 inhabitants, the locality is distinguished by the serene environment and strong connection to the territory.
According to the same source, it is usual to find residents sitting in the shade, throw cards on the squares or talk on the terraces.
Despite its discreet profile, the region has been attracting attention and investments from international figures.
French designer Christian Louboutin has settled here since 2017 and is developing a 15 bedroom hotel and restaurant.
International names to bet on Alentejo
Italian countess Noemi Marone Cinzano also built a vacation retreat in the area, photographed by the American magazine AD-Architectural Digest.
Belgian architect Vincent Van Duysen is another name linked to his destination, having designed and built a private residence that deserved a report on the New York Times, writes the Lusitanian style.
We recommend:
Broad beaches, little movement and facilitated access
The main beach of the region is extensive, watched and has free parking, as well as restoration support.
Still, it’s rare to see her full, even in the middle of summer.
Other options include nearly deserted Areals, such as Open Nova Beach, with Bar and Surveillance, and Galé-Fontaininhas Beach, isolated and poorly frequented.
Praia da Vigia is another alternative, although more difficult access, by sand road.
A pond on the way to the sea
Near the beach is a lagoon that extends to the village, crossing rice and small islands.
This ecosystem houses several species and is ideal for those who like bird observation, pedestrian tours or canoeing.
According to the fauna includes eels, mullets, white herons and blacks, among other species that depend on this sensitive habitat.
A destination that balances nature and privacy
Far from the great tourist constructions, this village maintains characteristics that make it unique: authenticity, direct contact with the landscape and still controlled tourism.
With the summer approaching and the prices rise in the most popular destinations, this corner continues to offer a calmer experience and, for now, with space to park even by the beach.
