In response to the minister’s decisions against companies and residents in the US, the Trump government has opened four fronts of retaliation: visa restriction, lawsuit, project of sanctions in the US Congress and study of blocking the magistrate.
The movement of management occurs amid the requests of licensed federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro, son of the former president, defendant in the Supreme Court on charges of leading a coup plot to prevent Lula’s inauguration (PT) in the Presidency of the Republic.
1) Visas restriction
The US State Department has announced one that “censor” Americans. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said it was unacceptable foreign authorities to issue warrants against US citizens/residents of posts on American soil, or require US platforms to adopt global moderation policies that interfere in the US. Boconist allies evaluate that Moraes and other members of the judiciary and the Federal Police can be direct targets of this measure.
2) Companies’ lawsuit (Truth Social and Rumble)
Trump’s media company (owner of Truth Social) and the Rumble platform filed a joint action against Moraes in a Federal Court in Florida (USA). They accuse the minister’s confidential orders – which required the global closure of the account of influencer Allan dos Santos (US resident) and the supply of his data – to violate American sovereignty, the first amendment (freedom of expression) and US laws. Companies seek to declare illegal orders in the United States and prevent Apple and Google from doing them by removing apps from stores.
3) Bill in the American Congress
A House Committee of the US Representatives approved a bill “at Censorship on Our Shores Act” (without censors in our territory) aimed at imposing sanctions such as visa cassation, deportation, and veto in the US to foreign authorities that violate freedom of expression first amendment. Bolsonaro’s allies claim that Moraes would fit into the criteria of this law, if approved.
4) Personal Sanctions (Magnitsky Law) and Political Pressure
Secretary of State Marco Rubio of The Trump Government to apply direct personal sanctions against Moraes, using magnitsky law that allows unilateral punishments for serious human rights violations.
The sanctions studied include blockade of goods in the US, freezing accounts (including Brazilian banks with operation there) and prohibition of entry in the country. This pressure is driven by the US performance with authorities, congressmen and figures such as Eduardo Bolsonaro to Moraes for his decisions.
The Brazilian government sees this as an attack on its sovereignty.
