Ukrainian President Volodmir Zelenski proposed on Wednesday, 28, a trilateral meeting with Presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin to advance in peace negotiations.

Earlier this month, and Kremlin stated that a meeting between the two leaders would only happen after some kind of agreement was reached.

Trump, in turn, expressed his frustration with Putin and Zelenski because they did not yet come to a definition to end the war, which began with the Russian invasion in 2022.

“If Putin is not comfortable with a bilateral meeting, or if everyone prefers a trilateral meeting, that doesn’t bother me. I’m ready for any format,” Zelenski said in comments published on Wednesday.

Zelenski also said he expected “US sanctions,” particularly against the Russian energy sector and banking system, in response to Moscow’s refusal to accept a truce.

Russia mentioned a “memo” last week describing the Russian conditions for a lasting peace agreement, but Kiev has not received it yet, added the Ukrainian President.

Russian diplomats said they would transmit this document to Kiev as soon as the extensive exchange of prisoners last weekend was completed.

In statements also released on Wednesday, Zelenski noted that Russia is gathering more than 50,000 soldiers near the Sumi region of Ukraine, in the northeast of the country, with a view to a possible offensive against this border territory.

“Russia is trying to create a” tampon zone “in that area,” he said.
