Lemon grass, also known as lemon fragrance, is not only a decoration of the garden and a great flavor, but also an effective natural repellent. Its distinctive lemon aroma can effectively repel mosquitoes and other insects.

Lemon fragrance, also known as lemon grass, is a sturdy perennial plant from India and Southeast Asia. It creates tufts of long, gray -green leaves that grow to a height of 1.5 meters. Its greatest charm lies in the high content of essential oils, citral, Nerol, Linalol, Geranioli and Lemonen, which makes its intense lemon smell. It is grown very easily, needs enough light, nutritional soil and good water drainage because it does not tolerate waterlogging. In addition to kitchen and healing use, however, its repellent effect is what makes it so popular plant.

How lemon grass repels mosquitoes and how to use it

Lemon grass contains essential oils that disrupt the ability of mosquitoes to perceive odors. Simply put, these substances overlap the smell of human skin and thus make the insects impossible to navigate towards their victims. Oil from this plant has a natural repellent and has been used since ancient Greece and Rome. To this day it is one of the most popular natural methods of protection against flying insects.

The easiest way to use lemon grass against mosquitoes is its cultivation in the garden or in a pot, ideally on the terrace or by windows. If you want to protect the interior, one plant is sufficient for a room of approximately 20 m². It is recommended to place several plants in the corners of the garden outside, creating a natural protective barrier. And moreover, it is a decorative plant and really easy to care.

Another option is to use essential lemon oil, either in the form of direct application to the skin, always diluted in a carrier vegetable oil, such as almond, or by an aromadifera to disperse the aroma into the air. As an alternative you can produce your own candles or fragrant sticks containing lemon. All these methods are not only effective, but also environmentally friendly and human health.
