Emigrants like the arrival. The party led by André Ventura outlined the consular circles. In Europe, he had more votes than AD and PS together; And it is now, officially, the second political force of Parliament.
O Arrive was the big winner of the circles of the, ensuring a mandate inside and outside Europe. The remaining two terms were attributed to AD. Already the PS, for the first time, did not elect abroad.
With these results, the arrival (60) exceeds the PS (58) in number of deputies in the Assembly of the Republic and becomes the opposition leader.
In Europe, it was close that it did not elect two deputies. André Ventura’s party had More votes (71,990) than AD and PS together (17,980).
The arrival was the most voted party in France, one of the traditional destinations of Portuguese emigration, taking this position to the PS and getting more votes than the PSD/CDS coalition and the socialists together.
According to official data, the arrival obtained 28.85%of the votes in France, leading the PS (14.41%) and the PSD/CDS coalition (12.81%). In last year’s elections, the PS was the most voted party in this country, with 18.59%of the votes, staying ahead of the arrival (16.75%) and AD (12.63%).
In Switzerland, another European country with a strong presence of Portuguese emigrants, the arrival reinforced the lead, obtaining 45.72% of the votes, compared to 32.62% in 2024. In the second position was the PSD/CDS coalition, such as AD in 2024, and the PS in third place, equal to the one it achieved last year.
In the United Kingdom, the arrival won with 16% of the votes, thus destroying the PS which in 2024 was first, with 15.22% of the vote. In second place was the PS (13.21%) and the PSD/CDS coalition (13.07%).
In Luxembourg, the arrival also leads, reinforcing the vote: 31.27%, against 19.61% in 2024. The PSD/CDS coalition maintained the second position and the PS the third.
Only with a consulate to find out at 10 pm, the arrival won with 26.33%of the votes, followed by the PSD/CDS coalition (15.88%) and the PS (13.53%).
The results point to the election of two deputies of the AD coalition (One through Europe and one outside Europe) and two from the arrival (one for each circle).
New Opposition Leader
In a brief reaction to journalists, André Ventura took over as the opposition leader to the “central block of interests”and considered that the result of the May 18 legislative elections represented a major change in the Portuguese political system.
