Finance Minister Fernando Haddad countered on Thursday (29) the criticism he has been receiving by the government’s decision to raise tax rates on Financial Operations (IOF). During an event in Paraná, Haddad classified as “suffering” the pressure he faces, but said that serving the government of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva “is always interesting.”
“As much as you suffer, with the so much you are criticized, that you are, that you are that, there is today to erase all the suffering,” Haddad said at the Maila Sabrina Settlement ceremony in Ortigueira (PR), which was attended by MST militants.
At the same event, President Lula came out in defense of the minister. In mentioning the delivery of the settlement and the government’s performance in the countryside, the president stated that Haddad is one of those responsible for the advances. “When we have competent people to sit at a table and negotiate, we get a lot of things in this country. Messiah and Haddad are to be congratulated for it,” he said, also citing AGU Minister Jorge Messias.

On Thursday, the mayor, Hugo Motta (Republicans-PB), said that and gave the government 10 days to present an alternative plan.
On the night of Wednesday (28), Haddad met with Motta and Senate President David Alcolumbre (Brazil-AP Union), and reiterated that, warning for the case the decree is overthrown without compensation.
