Al-Awdá Hospital in the northern part of the Gaza Strip stated on Thursday that Israeli troops had been forced to evacuate its premises during the day, TASR reports according to AFP.

“The Israeli occupation forces are currently forced to evacuate patients and medical staff from the interior of the Al-Awdá Hospital in Tal al-State,” said the healthcare facility in a statement, saying that it is “the only hospital that is still operating in the north of Gaza”.

The Israeli army did not respond immediately at the request for a comment, writes AFP.

There are still people in the hospital

The hospital said on Thursday that there are 97 people, including 13 patients and injured persons and 84 medical staff, in its premises.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health, managed by the Hamas militant movement in the Gaza Strip, said Israel “demanded the evacuation of Al-Awda Hospital”, which basically “removed it”.

The UN Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (Ocha) said on Thursday that there is an effort to “evacuate patients and medical staff” from the hospital. “The hospital is currently overcrowded with injured and has critically low supplies … The continued enemy actions have damaged the hospital in the past two weeks, made it impossible to access and have caused panic, discouraged people from demanding health care,” Ochas said in a statement.

Residents are missing supplies

The World Health Organization (WHO) pointed out that Gaza residents suffer from acute food, water, medicines, fuel and shelters, recalls AFP.

The Gaza War began after an unprecedented attack by Palestinian militants connected to the radical Hamas movement to Israel of October 7, 2023, which, according to AFP, died 1218 people, mostly civilians.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health said on Thursday that at least 3986 people have died from 18 March, when Israel had finished the ceasefire in Gaza. Thus, the total number of victims of the war is in Gaza 54,249 – mostly civilians, adds the agency.
