(Reuters)-Tesla has tested model Y-free cars in Austin, Texas, and intends to deliver the first unit in June, the automaker’s executive president, Elon Musk, said on Thursday.
Musk had said earlier this year that this release would start with 10 or 20 Model Y vehicles.
“A month earlier than expected,” Musk said Thursday on his social network X, adding that the tests occurred without any “incident.”
Musk said on Wednesday he was leaving the government of US President Donald Trump, where he led a controversial cost cut campaign that hit various US government agencies.

Tesla sales have fallen worldwide with increasing competition and Musk facing negative consumer reaction for their political opinions and their work to Trump.
