Pope Leo XIV. On Thursday he visited the papal summer residence in Castel Gandolf, where he looked at the project Borgo Laudato Si, who founded his predecessor Pope Francis. Referring to Vatican News news website, AP reported, TASR writes.
Borgo L It is a space dedicated to formation and education on the theme of the Earth as a “common home” – The example of “integral ecology”, which is the core of the same encyclical of Pope Francis.
During his visit to Castel Gandolfe, the Pope Leo also visited the Apostolic Palace, which Francis turned into a museum in 2016. By publishing the Encyclical Laudato S, ten years ago, Pope Francis pointed out the importance of land care as a common home of all people. The area around the papal seat in Castel Gandolf – including 20 hectares of agricultural land, greenhouses and operating buildings – was subsequently chosen as a place for a specific implementation of the principles declared in the encyclical.
The aim of Borgo Laudato SS is to contribute to the development of ecological education and to distribute awareness of environmental care. With the help of botany experts, biology, integral ecology and related Borgo fields, it offers space for deeper knowledge of the values contained in the encyclical. It also provides practical training courses, for example for future gardeners and greenery workers.
The project is open to the general public – entrepreneurs, experts, schoolchildren, students, but also those who often do not get opportunities in life: migrants, women experiencing violence, people with disabilities, former prisoners, or persons in the process of re -socialization. It was on these people that Pope Francis put special emphasis.
The residence on the northern edge of Castel Gandolfo was built in 1624 by Pope Urban VIII. as a refuge before hot summer in Rome. During the pontificate of his successors, the palace was gradually expanded to today’s area of 55 hectareswhich is even more than the territory of the Vatican itself.
It was used by many popes as a summer residence. Pope Benedict XVI. It is known for the fact that here on February 28, 2013 he symbolically ended his pontificate. Pope Francis has not yet once dealed a classic holiday during his 12 -year -old pontificate – During the summer he stayed in Rome and Castel Gandolfo did not use.
Laudato Si (in translation: either praised) is the name of the encyclical that Pope Francis published on May 24, 2015. The name comes from the medieval song of St. Francis of Assisi praise of creation. Encyclical deals with the ecological and social problems of today’s world. In it, Francis calls on all humanity, not only Catholics to take care of the land together as “our common home”. It combines nature care with the care of the poor, justice and future generations. The encyclical emphasizes “integral ecology”, ie understanding that the environment, society, economics and spirituality are interconnected.
