More than 17,000 people from the Canadian province of Manitoba on Wednesday have called for an evacuation for spreading forest fires. According to reports of AFP, AP and Reuters, TASR reports this. “Manitoby government has declared a state of emergency throughout the province because of the situation with forest fires,” said Prime Minitoby Wab Kinew at a press conference. According to him, this is the greatest evacuation in this area.

To help with the evacuation of 17,000 people, the army was also called, which was approved by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. The declaration of emergency helps to safely transport the evacuated authorities and provide them with shelter, explains AP.

Kinew claims that military aircraft will “” urgently “deployed to help evacuate people from endangered remote northern communities to safety, along with other means of fire extinguishing.

The evacuation also concerns the mining city of Flin Flon, where 5,000 inhabitants were rather ordered to prepare for immediate departure. The residents of several other remote cities and communities of indigenous people also received a call to leave. According to AFP, most evacuated is expected to be transported to the capital of Manitoba, Winnipeg.
